April 6, 2000 ~ Crunch Time
This has been one of those weeks where I'm extremely busy (yes, it is possible for me to be even more busy than usual) and extremely tired. I haven't had time to sleep. I have done so many things I was backed up on, however.
We found out today that the print version of The Well (the web magazine I run) has to go to press in TWO weeks. We don't even have a layout yet. Can we say PANIC??? Boy are we going to be stressing out hardcore for the next two weeks. It's crunch time, people.
Scott's mom is still in the hospital... He had to miss our staff meeting today... I hope everything is all right. He's had a very hard week. (Scott is my work supervisor for the magazine).
Our car, Pokey, was broken into last night. The driver's side window was broken, and it will take 200$ or so to replace. All they stole was our flashlight (not that there is anything in that car which would be worth stealing). I do wonder why they broke into Pokey. I mean... She just looks like a poor car. And she is. Because her owners are very poor. We were lucky. There were sixteen cars broken into last night on campus (someone had a little party) and most had much more valuable stuff to be stolen. Campus security is in big trouble right now, because they weren't doing their job. They are supposed to patrol the area at least once an hour. The break-ins were not discovered until this morning when a student was walking by on his or her way to class and called security. I went down to the parking lot and there was broken glass everywhere. On top of that, several of the car doors had been left ajar, so the dome lights would have been on... It would have been very noticeable. Obviously, security didn't make any rounds last night, for they are supposed to look for that kind of stuff... and it is not like they could have possibly missed it.
It's kind of strange. Ever since they came and told us that our car was broken into, and we went out to find the window missing and glass all over the pavement and front seat... It hasn't really phased me. Two years ago, I probably would have taken it as a personal offense, and I would have been scared and mad and indignant... I would be doubting my belief that most people really are well-meaning and trustworthy. Today it was just kind of like, "Yeah, well... These things happen." I honestly wasn't angry or losing faith. So what, we have a broken car window. Some people don't have a car. So what, we were the "victims" of a crime, someone did something that wasn't very nice. Some people are just like that, they just do mean things. Deal with it.
I'm just concerned about what to do about the broken window. We honestly don't have any money in the bank, none at all. Our credit card balances are all getting steep. We have to get the window fixed, though, for Morgan has to drive to web page jobs, and we both have to get to the bank, and other little errands occasionally (Golly I miss living in an area with a good public transit system). So... Morgan's dad offered to pay for it, but we really don't want him to have to do that... So onto the credit card it will go, I guess. There is a very small possibility that the school will start a small fund to help the people who were affected pay for the damages.
